About

Sentio – Integrated Sensors and Adaptive Technology for Sustainable Products and Manufacturing – is a Vinnova competence centre established in 2024.

The goal is to significantly improve sustainability, reduce the use of resources, and increase competitiveness across industrial sectors of Sweden by a deep digital real-time optimisation of production processes and product performance using integrated sensor technology. The centre will create a highly inter-disciplinary environment bringing together the wide range of diverse competences from industry and academia that are needed to realize the ambitious vision.

Expected results and effects

Through continuous and smart process optimization, Swedish industry can adapt to a significantly reduced environmental load and material consumption, and at the same time increase its competitiveness. Real-time optimization is also a central technology for being able to reuse materials in sustainable circular production processes in a resource-efficient way.

Planned approach and implementation

Sentio Competence Centre is coordinated by Lund University and will work interdisciplinary with strong support from Swedish industry, RISE, public sector and trade associations. The parties contribute with expertise in industrial production, nanotechnology and nanofabrication, material characterization, mathematical modelling and signal processing, wireless communication, software development, and models for sustainability analysis. Sentio will develop technology for sustainable circular production chains and train next generation of engineers.
